Katarina began to skate at age five. old. She was only five when her talents became apparent, and at the age of Karl-Marx-Stadt she enrolled in the school that was specifically made for kids who have athletic talents. The school was where she got to know Jutta Muller in this school. Witt was able to make her debut year in 1982, when she came second in the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Since then, her grace and elegance caught everyone's attention. Then she began dominating the sport. Olympic success At the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Games, Katarina Witt fought hard in a tightly race to claim the women's figure skating gold medal. Her victory four years ago was a bit more tense. Although she lost in the free-skating competition, the gold was awarded for her performances on the mandatory figures as well as the program in short form. Witt is the only time a repeat winner in women's figure skating in the sport since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt had amazing success as an acting career, however she returned to her sports in order to compete during her participation in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Although she did not win the gold medal, she was a hit with the spectators. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
